MOFA denounces China for escalating regional tensions

December 30, 2025
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dec. 29 criticizes China following Beijing’s announcement of military exercises in waters and airspace surrounding Taiwan. (MOFA)
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned China Dec. 29 following its announcement of the Justice Mission 2025 military exercises taking place around Taiwan Dec. 30 and called on Beijing to stop the unnecessary provocations.

According to the MOFA, recently China has continuously sent warplanes and warships to conduct military aggressions and gray zone tactics in airspace and waters across the Indo-Pacific, challenging the rules-based international order and unilaterally jeopardizing regional peace.

It has become the global consensus that it is in the interest of all parties to maintain stability in the Taiwan Strait, the ministry said. Despite this, China persists in intimidating Taiwan and neighboring countries, especially those situated in the first island chain, in violation of international norms and the U.N. Charter’s principle of refraining from the threat or use of force, it added.

In response to the drill, the Ministry of Defense stated that a command center has been established to dispatch appropriate military personnel to monitor the situation, safeguard democracy and freedom, and defend the sovereignty of the ROC (Taiwan). The MOD noted that all members of the armed forces are on high alert and stand ready to protect citizens.

Additionally, the Mainland Affairs Council emphasized that the government would enhance self-defense capabilities and strengthen societal resilience to demonstrate national determination to defend Taiwan.(POC-E)
